Vokuvi - Fall Better Review

VUKOVI’s second album ‘Fall Better’ is just around the corner now. The Scottish alternative rock band already gave us a taste of the new record with singles ‘C.L.A.U.D.I.A’, ‘Behave’, ‘All That Candy’ and ‘Run/Hide’. They started off the new year with another banger called ‘Violent Minds’ and now I got to listen to the whole record just before its release on January 24th.

The upcoming release is a dark album. Most of the songs on this record are about Janines OCD and how she’s ready to fight it after being diagnosed not even two years ago. Add her powerful vocals, some dirty freaking riffs and a lot of energy and you get the recipe for a killer album that is ‘Fall Better’.‘17359’ introduces us to ‘Fall Better’ and basically describes what it’s all about and what a wild ride we’re in for. Next we hit it off with the catchy ‘Violent Minds’ and ‘Aura’, followed by first two released singles of the new VUKOVI era ‘C.L.A.U.D.I.A’ and ‘Behave’. ‘Play With Me ‘Cos I Can Take It’ has a very dancy sound to it and I felt like I was in a club back in the 90s when listening to it for the first time.
After the second interlude we jump right back into it with ‘All That Candy’, which is a true singalong song. For Track 9 and 10 we get out our box of tissues as we hear a very vulnerable Janine sing about one of her lowest points dealing with her OCD and how it affects the people around her in ‘I’m Sorry’.
With ‘White Lies’ we nicely build up to the closing track of the album, ‘Run/Hide’, which is my personal favourite and is said to be a live favourite as well. It showcases Janine’s unique voice and incredible vocal skills as well as featuring some anime-like guest vocals that totally fit the VUKOVI aesthetic. To make it complete I am absolutely obsessed with the guitar riff that just keeps getting better throughout the song.

Front-woman Janine said that with this album she wanted to let people know that it’s okay to be crazy and weird, and that you’re not alone. I feel like she definitely achieved that goal. The lyrics are very relatable and the whole thing just really pulls you in and has you feeling all the emotions.

‘Fall Better’ is available everywhere on the 24th of January, 2020 via VKVI Records. They're celebrating the release with a run of intimate gigs and acoustic in-store performances all across the UK.
