Angel Dust album review

It’s been almost two months since Angel Du$t announced their new record “Pretty Buff”, which is due to come out TOMORROW!

We had the chance to listen to it a little earlier and if you heard their first singles “Bang My Drum” and “Big Ass Love”, you get a good insight into the general musical vibe of the album.

Our first impression of “Pretty Buff”: It’s an overall fun, fast and upbeat record! While this sounds and feels like Angel Du$t, you wouldn’t want to compare the 13 track album to previous releases. So, if you expect the five-piece band from Baltimore to do the same thing again à la “Rock the Fuck on Forever” 2.0, you’re pretty damn wrong! But don’t worry, they made sure you won’t miss out on catchy songs and some sweet guitar and bass solos.

Now, while most of them are fast, loud and upbeat, there’s one song that sticks out, “Light Blue”, a quieter song, which features rather soft vocals, that leads into the catchy track “Biggest Girl” and the even wilder “Push”. “Bang My Drum” even features a saxophone solo, which already shows you what a wild-ride this album is going to be!

Two things that bind these songs together, though, are that they’re all quite short, the longest one being merely 2:51 minutes and despite some experiments on this album (yes, we’re mainly still talking about the crazy sax solo) it doesn’t feel like a random put together collection of songs. There’s a musical coherency connecting all 13 tracks to an exciting new album that shows us sides of Angel Du$t we all can look forward to.

Honorable Mention: “Let Me Know”

“Pretty Buff” comes out March 15th 2019 via Roadrunner Records.
